Cyber Crime Threat Increase

UK & US Businesses Urged To Bolster Cyber Security As Cyber War Threat Looms

Both UK and US businesses have been urged to increase their cyber security as Russia’s attack on Ukraine continues, and the threat of a cyberwar continues to increase.

“Evolving Intelligence Russia May Be Planning A Cyber-Attack Against Us”

In a statement late on Monday, US President Joe Biden stated that businesses have a “patriotic obligation” to protect themselves, before saying that they have “evolving intelligence Russia may be planning a cyber-attack against us”.

“The magnitude of Russia’s cyber capability is fairly consequential and it’s coming,” he said, adding that everyone needed to “do their part to meet one of the defining threats of our time”.

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has also urged UK organisations to bolster their cyber security defences amid Russia’s threat to Ukraine

Who Would Be Targeted In A Cyber War?

A common misconception amongst small and medium-sized businesses is that due to their size, they won’t become target to an attack.

This could not be more wrong, and in fact, small and medium-sized businesses are often the ones most targeted by cybercriminals in more sophisticated ways in the modern era.

In the UK there are an estimated 65,000 cyber-attacks attempted every single day, with cybercriminals conducting a successful attack, on average, every 19 seconds. These attacks can lead to catastrophic lengths of downtime as well as employee data being held for ransom, with many businesses never recovering from the effects of these attacks.

With the threat of a cyber war increasing, the rate of these attacks is only likely to increase, meaning it is more important than ever to ensure your business has the correct security systems in place.
