Refurbished products can also be known as reconditioned, this means that the product has been through Microsofts thorough process to be sold again as refurbished. For example, companies that are upgrading to a new set of laptops or computers will sell them onto a refurbisher who will then diagnose, repair and adhere to the Microsoft refurbished programme. This could mean that the product only needs cleaning or be resprayed, it could also mean some of the parts need to be replaced, a common replacement is a keyboard due to worn-down keys.

Products can be sent back to manufacturers for a variety of different reasons, for example, the packaging could be damaged, this would then be repackaged and sold as refurbished for a fraction of the price at new.
