Our client’s business premises are located next to the beautiful River Wyre, in an area of outstanding beauty in the North of England. Originally a Fulling Mill processing cloth it is now a highly recommended nursing home. The home has achieved the nationally recognised “Gold Standards Framework Award” which demonstrates excellence in end of life care. Cornmill is one of only a handful of care homes across the UK, to have achieved and retained the highest level of award: The Beacon Status.
George Hill, director ensured that flood protection measures were part of the homes Emergency Business Continuity Plan. A recently built basement was designed to protect IT infrastructure and Nybble were consulted and provided what we thought the IT infrastructure and associated protective measures should be.
Storm ‘Desmond’ came and flooded much of Cumbria and North Lancashire. Like many businesses in the North, the Cornmill’s basement was flooded, despite the huge effort put into prevention. Our client discovered his server and IT equipment submerged underwater and disaster loomed. Nybble were called.
As part of our Managed Services and Support, we had already extensively planned and prepared for such an eventuality. We had a complete back up of their system and data both onsite and stored away from the premises. This multi-layer of protection is the best way to ensure you survive such an incident.
We quickly organised a replacement server and our technical team reinstalled the systems and data efficiently and speedily. Considering the severity of the situation, the downtime was minimal thanks to Nybble having one of the fastest response times in the industry. Within 3 hours, Mr Hill had his business back up and running thanks to the wonderful technology that is virtualisation.
We felt extremely proud that the effect on his business, in terms of IT, were minimal. Disaster recovery is one of our specialist areas and all businesses should have a plan in place.
George Hill – Director, Cornmill Nursing Home
